Why would a landlord give a property to me?
Hello, hello, hello and welcome aboard episode 33 of the Rent to Rent Success Podcast.
Today we’re talking about why on earth any sane landlord would give a property to you!
Before I start today,
I want to thank you for all your reviews on Apple and Spotify.
And I want to especially thank Harry Hordle who left us a most beautiful review on Apple podcasts.
Harry you touched our hearts with this one.
It’s about episode 30 that I did with my sister and business partner Nicky Taylor, definitely go and listen to episode 30 if you missed that one.
Here’s what Harry said:
“Inspirational and thought provoking. Stephanie is joined by sister Nicky to tell of her rise from YTS worker to banking professional and then via education to partner in property.
Underpinned by some heavyweight values of determination, hard work, integrity and giving back, Nicky helps us to lift our vision of ourselves and our abilities and inspires us to attain higher levels of success in our own lives.
In league with sister Stephanie, the duo have created a rent to rent HMO business that has systemised not only quality customer service but also giving. We learn how financial support is given to a school in Ghana, and other causes, through B1G1 giving as an automatic part of business activity. As my son-in-law is from Ghana, that caught my attention and definitely merits further investigation.
If you are feeling locked down in life, or in your head, listen to this podcast. These ladies will give you a new perspective and who knows, that may change your life.
Easy listening, easy to apply and if I may also say, easy on the eye, these two make one beautiful package. What's not to love.”
Harry you have made our day.
Thank you so much.
And if you enjoy the podcast please do subscribe and review, I’d love to share your review here too
So today’s topic…
Why would a landlord give a property to me?!
This is the second most popular question I get asked.
People are incredulous when they ask me.
They understand how rent to rent works, they accept that it’s legal but they absolutely draw the line at believing that any landlord would give a property to them.
It’s a natural hesitation.
It just doesn’t seem plausible that a landlord would walk past a traditional high street letting agent and choose you.
You, who likely have little, or no, property experience.
And yet, people are getting their first properties from landlords and letting agents every day.
People without prior experience with property and without huge pots of cash in the bank.
How?
The answer is that HMO landlords and letting agents have problems you can solve.
When you learn how to describe your solution effectively, you become an irresistible option to your perfect customers.
There are examples of people getting their first deal in our series of Rent 2 Rent Rockstars here.
They’re proof positive that you will attract landlords and letting agents to work with you, even though you’re new, when you have the right approach.
Remember landlords want three things:
The rent paid
The property looked after
Minimal risk in any transaction
To win with landlords, focus on how you can help.
One of our students is currently negotiating with a landlord and the landlord said to him that he prefers to move to someone who cares and is committed.
His agent isn’t able to give his property the attention it needs when they have hundreds of others to look after.
As a new rent to rent business you can give each property so much more attention than a standard letting agent and landlords can see that.
So don’t dismiss what you have to offer.
Learn the best way to present yourself and get out there and do it!
Now after coronavirus, there is more opportunity than ever!
I encourage you to listen to one of the Rockstars episodes so you can hear how people are doing it!
Next episode we’ll be tackling letting agents.
Why would they work with us, aren’t we competitors?
Have you found this useful?
We’d be super appreciative you could leave a review on apple podcasts.

And for every podcast review you give, you’re giving to help children in the Turkana region of Kenya to have the uniform and books they need to attend school. We’ll be contributing through B1G1.
Until next time, have a great rest of the week.
And remember,
Believe Bigger, Be Bolder and Be a Gamechanger!
See you soon!
